Breastfeeding Tips

Hello

It’s beautiful August!!!

B&G August Design1

We are celebrating all past, present and future nursing mums this #breastfeeding week (1-7 August)

WorldBreastfeeding Week

and we asked present and past nursing mums to share breastfeeding experiences and tips

Breastfeeding Tips

Their experiences and tips  –

I spent time drinking liquid which I hardly drink because I wanted to make sure my baby had enough every time… Onome

The importance of sitting upright/finding the right posture/comfortable spot whilst breastfeeding was lost on the newbie mum that I was. I initially always sat ‘hunched’ whilst breastfeeding and had the most severe back aches… Oyinkan

One thing I usually do while breastfeeding is bible study or watch youtube vlogs cause it can get very quiet and boring just sitting there alone. I also make sure to drink tons of water throughout the day even if i am not able to eat so much. Another important thing for me to prevent or in my case help with cracked nipples (since i didn’t discover this on time lol) after feeding or pumping, put a bit of the milk on your nipples and let it air dry then rub some nipple cream on it. Works wonders!  …. Omolola

I found pap and oat really helpful whilst breastfeeding my boys. Both meals really helped as I always had an more than enough supply. I also found a warm shower helpful. I mean I remember the “rush” or “in filling” during my showers….Eniola

My second baby girl did not like bottle feeding so it was tasking breastfeeding especially when you have to feed until she gets the hind milk, when your breasts feel empty. This contains more nutrients. But she quickly adapted into solids after 6 months….Montunrayo

Use our B&G breastfeeding cover for convenient public breastfeeding …. B&G

We celebrate the people of Cameroon!!

Happy new month!! We hope January was a great month for you?

This week we celebrate the beautiful Republic of Cameroon. It was their  56th independence on the 1st of January 2016!!

Cameroon flag

                                                      Cameroon flag

The national flag of Cameroon was adopted in its present form on 20 May 1975 after Cameroon became a unitary state. It is a vertical tricolour of green, red and yellow, with a yellow five-pointed star in its centre.

Cameroon is often called “Africa in miniature” for its geological and cultural diversity, Cameroon is home to over 23 million people with more than 200 different linguistic groups with French and English as their official languages.

LOCATION

It is bordered by Nigeria to the West; Chad to the North-East; the Central African Republic to the East; and Equatorial Guinea, Gabon and the Congo to the South. Cameroon’s coastline lies on the Bight of Bonny, part of the Gulf of Guinea and the Atlantic Ocean.

Cameroon map

Its capital city Yaoundé lies in the centre of the country and has a population of approximately 2.5 million, the second largest city in the country after the port city Douala.

RELIGION & CULTURE

Cameroon’s culture consists of many religions including Christianity (about 69%), Islam (about 21%), and many other traditional religions as their constitution allows freedom of religion. The Northern part of Cameroon is heavily occupied by the Fulani people also known Mbororo while the Western region is home of the Bamum people. The French-speaking people are often inhabitants of the southern and western regions.

CAMEROONIAN CUISINE

This is one of the most varied in Africa due to its location on the crossroads between the North, West, and centre of the continent; added to this is the profound influence of French food, a legacy of the colonial era. Among Cameroonian specialties are brochettes known locally as soya (a kind of barbecued kebab made from either chicken, beef, or goat),  sangah (a mixture of maize, cassava leaf and palmnut juice) and ndole (a spicy stew containing bitter leaf greens, meat, shrimp, pork rind and peanut paste).

Beautiful Africa in 2016

Hello, we trust 2016 has truly been beautiful for you thus far. Lets do a quick look at Africa in 2016.

There is a lot happening in the global economic space; dwindling commodity and oil prices, China’s slow economy has caused low growth across the African continent. In terms of security across the continent, the battle against Boko Haram in West Africa, Al-Shabab in East Africa is still on…..

Tough time pic

Let’s take a sneak peek into some of the good things we are expecting in Africa this year.

Political

We expect presidential polls will hold in Benin, Niger and Uganda in February and in Congo later in the year, elections give an opportunity for change and renewed hope. Also, exceptional leaders like John Magufuli of Tanzania and Macky Sall of Senegal are being praised for their works towards reducing government excesses and waste.

John Magufuli                                                     Macky Sall

Economic:

In the midst of the gloomy global economics, there is expected growth in Ivory Coast, Tanzania and Rwanda because they have lower exposure to the commodity slowdown, and should continue to benefit from large-scale investment in infrastructure.

Ivory Coast                                                 Tanzania                                             Rwanda

Social and Creatives:

There are some outstanding African creatives doing awesome things in the global creative space like John Boyega (featured in Stars Wars VII), Abraham Attah (14 year old who featured in Beast of no nations) and Noma Dumezweni (will be featured in Harry Potter’s stage play)

What great thing would you like to see in Africa in 2016?

In expecting great things to happen in Africa, we can not sit back but need to work and pray about it

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. 2 Chron 7:14

Belle & Grace will continue to promote Africa’s beauty in 2016 using our unique products, regular write-ups and by working with other afrocentric entrepreneurs. In all we are working towards promoting a beautiful Africa in 2016!!!
